How do I make my garden stand out from the crowd?

How do I make my garden stand out from the crowd?

It’s a question we often get asked here at Henderson’s. We are constantly on the lookout for unique items to help you stamp your personality on your garden as well as your home. We continually source one-of-a-kind pieces you won’t find in a garden centre or high-street shop, and we go out of our way to track down something different that will add style, character and charm to outdoor spaces

Often it's that one piece that stands out from the crowd, which creates a focal point and adds real personality to a garden. We love finding those items that set your outdoor space apart. From vintage and reclaimed finds to garden sculpture and furniture, we have curated a collection of limited-edition feature pieces that wouldn’t look out of place in a Chelsea Flower Show garden.

Sensational sculpture

Statuary, stoneware and sculpture is a wonderful way to create a garden feature, to bring extra charm, interest and character to your outdoor space. Position the right piece in the right place to enhance planting schemes and draw the eye. Use more than one piece to create a ‘trail’ for the eye to follow around the garden. From stoneware to galvanised steel and bronze, these pieces age and weather beautifully, becoming more and more a part of the fabric of your garden as time goes by.

Our striking galvanised steel Red Hot Poker sculpture adds grace, elegance, colour and interest to outdoor spaces. This is a piece that works well in any style of garden, drawing the eye and complementing many styles of planting. It is also a wonderful way to add height to a scheme, drawing the gaze upwards, to break up areas of planting or denote a new section.

Our Deer Sculpture has a wonderfully contemporary feel. With tapered legs and rounded edges, a pair of deer graze quietly, the perfect partner for grasses and foliage. The soft grey finish adds a modern touch, while the elegant shaping suggests gentleness. Although modern, the deer would just as equally suit a cottage-style or country setting and look stunning with a natural backdrop behind them. A piece to melt the heart every time you catch sight of it.

Our Bronze Pixies, each striking its own distinctive pose, are perfect for creating a focal point. We only have three available and each one has its own unique charm and personality. They look fabulous surrounded by foliage, placed at the base of a tree or sitting mischievously amongst bright blooms. Using a garden feature such as this draws the eye to an area you want to highlight, and adds fun and interest, as well as introducing alternative colours and textures to set off surrounding greenery.

Statement Stoneware

For those looking for a real statement piece, we have a selection of beautifully aged stone troughs. Hand-crafted in sandstone, these original troughs are in excellent condition and enjoy a unique patina, with moss and lichen growing on all sides, which is testament to years of weathering. These can be made into wonderful water features or planted up with succulents or herbs, both of which create a completely different look and feel, and are equally impressive.

Handcrafted Furniture

Great garden furniture helps pep up the personality of outdoor spaces. All of our garden pieces, from tables and chairs to benches and arbours, have their own unique look and feel; they are beautifully crafted pieces from a range of natural materials, adding style and presence to gardens that will last for years. Our Adirondack Armchair and footrest designed by Barlow Tyrie, has its heritage in the original Thomas Lee design, but has evolved into a more comfortable lounger chair that will blend organically into any outdoor setting. Crafted in teak and beautifully weathered to a soft silver grey colour, this stylish chair is one both to be admired as well as lounged in.

Simple and elegant, our hand-crafted oak bench marries traditional wood working with natural wood grain to create a stunning, solid piece of furniture that is perfectly at home in contemporary and traditional settings. Ideal for gravel gardens or courtyards, this also works beautifully set against a wall or fence to create a suntrap. Keep it simple, or add bright outdoor cushions for extra colour and comfort.

Equally impressive are our recently discovered Teak Table and Bench, large-scale garden furniture that looks completely at ease in a natural setting and is made to last.

Sourcing service

Because we seek out such unique finds, we often only have single pieces available in each style. The rarity of these items is guaranteed to add something extra special to gardens. We work hard to source hard-to-find pieces and offer a sourcing service for customers looking for particular items. So, if there is anything you have been looking for, pop into our Melrose shop or drop us an email and we will do all we can to help you find that special something. And please do keep checking in as you never know what we might find next!
