Create A Festive Home

Simple steps to help create a festive home that makes you feel happy.

Christmas is not going to be the same this year, but judging by what lots of customers in the shop have been saying, everyone is planning to make whatever they are doing extra special.

I love this time of year, and it’s always great fun unpacking all the new stock for the shop and trying out different looks and ideas. I love mixing things up a bit, using an urn as a statement candle holder, for example, or teaming fresh foliage with faux stems.

When it comes to my own home, I like to create cosy nooks by bringing the outdoors in with foraged or windfall foliage and fir cone branches, paired with faux berry stems. To do it yourself, fill a vase or urn with oasis, and create an arrangement to suit the style of your vase; remember that bigger branches and fuller foliage will need a larger vase and enough space around it.

I often like to include fresh rosemary and eucalyptus stems for their gorgeous fragrance. Our faux Eucalyptus Stems will add bulk to single, fresh blooms and always feel really Christmassy whatever you pair them with, while our Eucalyptus and White Flower Garland is great for mantels, shelves, bookcases or wound around the base of candle holders on a festive table.

I love candlelight, and there are so many pretty and well-priced candle holders around that it’s easy to be inventive. Mix scale, proportion and colour to create a focal point. If you normally only use dinner candles, consider a pillar candle teamed with a faux foliage candle holder. Our Blueberry Candle Ring looks amazing paired with one of our long-lasting Maroc candles.

Create a vignette on a side table with votives of different shapes and sizes - our Diamond Cut Votives and Candle Holders come in three complementary colours, so work really well together. Our Golden Feather Votive and Frond Candle Holder both create beautiful flickering light and shadows. Place tall candles in front of a mirror to double the light reflection and, with any candle holders, stick to odd numbers - a group of three always works well.

If, like me, your mantle is too narrow for a traditional swag, think about accessorising in a different way. I might fill little terracotta plant pots with sand and pop a dinner candle into each, decorate the base with dried moss, and sprigs of rosemary and bay, for a fragrant decoration. Alternatively, our faux Miniature Trees will add elegance and Scandi style chic to any tablescape.

Faux foliage table wreaths are great as they can be used again and again, and still look fresh. Our Wild Blueberry Table Wreath has a lovely natural look to it and it looks beautiful on a table set with our vintage-look Etched Prosecco Glasses (which work just as well for wine too).

Get creative with larger wreaths – lovely on doors, but they also look fantastic hung on banisters or the backs of chairs. Alternatively, use a Red Berry & Eucalyptus Garland in place of a wreath on everything from shelves and banisters to chair backs.

I love sheepskins and natural fabric cushions. They add texture and warmth to any interior and always look glamorous. Mine are draped over the backs of sofas and armchairs, and feel like the ultimate in comfort to me. Our Anderson Cushion is my new favourite thing to cosy up homes and add a touch of luxury.

Whatever decor style you choose, my advice would be to just enjoy it. Surround yourself with things you love and create a space that makes you feel happy and you can’t go wrong.

We hope you have a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year when it comes.
