A Twinkle Of Magic

There’s no right way to do Christmas – family customs and individual tastes will shape how your perfect December looks and feels. But it’s the little ideas that make all the difference, from the greenery and foliage you hang on your front door, to the ribbon you choose to wrap the presents…anything that gently sprinkles your personal touch like snowflakes over the proceedings.

I indulge in every way possible at Christmas- the frenetic run up to the big day often makes for a few last minute impulsive decisions on decoration but that said, as long as the intoxicating smell of fresh pine and foliage is lingering in the air, I’m content to tweak and rearrange things on a day to day basis as visitors come and go through the holidays…

MAKING AN ENTRANCE
Celebrate the festive season with natural style by using foraged berries, dried flower or seed heads and leaves to decorate your front door. This year I’m going to combine artichoke heads (still being produced by one confused plant in the garden) and Eucalyptus with Rosemary.

THE PERFECT CHRISTMAS TREE
For me, it has to be a big, oversized tree- the beautiful blue-green needles of a Nordmann Fir, gorgeously glam and the smell, warmly inviting.

FLORAL FLAMBOYANCE
Bold and beautiful, the stately amaryllis provides a welcome burst of colour and drama, brightening even the darkest winter days. A large vase filled with stems will add instant va-va-voom to a table!

DIVINE SCENTS
There is nothing nicer than opening the door to a house that smells divine. This season’s range of scented candles and reeds- masculine earthy tones in ‘Cedar’, deep woody ‘Conifer’ and the fresh heavenly notes of ‘Rosemary & Eucalyptus’ get my vote.

A TWINKLE OF MAGIC
Candles always add a twinkle of magic. Arrange mercurised votive’s on tables, sills and mantles among branches and pine cones to create a warm, flickering glow.

You’re never too old to get excited about twinkly lights… with decoration and foliage, some scented candles, fairy lights draped over the mantle, the odd lantern …you’ll nail it!
